Most of Westover Village was developed before World War II, which is why three and four-bedroom Colonial Revival style homes dominate the neighborhood. Public school students attend McKinley Elementary, Swanson Middle School, which is located in Westover at 5800 Washington Boulevard and was the first junior high school in Virginia, and Yorktown High School. - The Italian Store, 5837 N. Washington Blvd. – The Westover Village location of the legendary Italian specialty shop and deli is larger and offers even more (espresso/coffee bar, larger pizza selection, outdoor courtyard) than the original Lyon Village store.
- Thai Noy, 5880 Washington Blvd. – A lovely little Thai restaurant with a good-sized outdoor patio
- Stray Cat Café, 5866 Washington, Blvd. – This feline cousin to the Lost Dog Cafe features salads, sandwiches, burgers and 10 draft beers. Proceeds from the cafe help to fund the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation.
- Lebanese Taverna, 5900 Washington Blvd. – Another successful local restaurant group that started in Westover. The original Lebanese Taverna features mezza, shawarma and classic entrees like kabobs, mouzat (slow-cooked lamb shank) and ouzi with grape leaves.

If you’d like to unwind after a long day, stop by The Forest Inn, 5849 Washington Blvd., one of Arlington’s last remaining “original” barrooms or the Westover Beer Garden & Haus, 5863 Washington Blvd., where you’ll find a good selection of draft beers, and live music on the patio from Spring until Fall.

The Westover Village Shopping Center strip along Washington Boulevard features Ayers Variety & Hardware, 5853 Washington Blvd., a family-owned store that has everything residents need from hammers and nails to garden supplies to toys to annual visits from Santa. Next to Ayers is the Westover Market, 5863 Washington Blvd., a small grocery store with a butcher shop, deli and The Great Wall of Beer, with more than 1,000 brews to choose.
There’s also a Walgreens (formerly Rite Aid) pharmacy, 5841 Washington Blvd., Wells Fargo Bank, 1701 N. McKinley Rd., Pete’s Barber Shop, 5847 Washington Blvd., consignment store Finders Keepers, 5906 Washington Blvd., and Trade Roots Gift Store, 5852 Washington Blvd., which specializes in sustainable and Fair Trade handicrafts, jewelry, clothing and more.
The Westover Farmers Market, at the Westover Library Plaza, 1644 N. McKinley Rd., is open Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the summer (May-November) and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the winter (December-April). It’s truly a local market because all the vendors grow, raise, bake, cook or prepare everything themselves.

Transportation
Washington Boulevard is the main thoroughfare in Westover, with Lee Highway and I-66 close by for those who travel by car. There is also a wide range of public transportation options. The East Falls Church Metro Station, served by Metrorail’s Orange and Silver lines, is about a mile – or a 3- to 4-minute drive – from the center of Westover. Metrobus route 2A operates along Washington Boulevard between the East Falls Church Metro and Ballston-MU Metro stations. And Arlington Regional Transit ART bus route 53 provides a convenient way to reach the East Falls Church Metro during morning and afternoon rush hours. Westover is bicycle friendly with dedicated bike lanes (on Washington Blvd and Patrick Henry Drive), on-street routes and easy access to the 45-mile-long Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) and Custis multiuse trails. Parks
Westover Park, 1001 N. Kennebec St., is a four-acre park featuring two baseball fields, lighted basketball courts, a garden and a picnic shelter. The park frequently hosts the Arlington Babe Ruth Baseball/Cal Ripken Division and other local teams. Parkhurst Park, 5820 N. 20th Rd., a short stroll from Westover Village, is hidden on a dead end street and includes a play area with swings, climbing structures and a gazebo. There’s also park with a baseball field, two basketball courts and play area at the The Reed School and Westover Branch Library, 1644 North McKinley Road.
